You are considering a vintage Stevens Ideal No44 Falling-Block Rifle. It’s in great shape for its age, with a few things to note. The metalwork is holding up nicely and has not been refinished; the half-octagonal barrel still sports a fair amount of its original bluing. There’s wear mainly along the high points and some dimpling towards the muzzle-end, most likely from leaning against a metal surface like the inside of a safe. It, unfortunately, was drilled and tapped for a scope with a center-to-center distance of 12-inches. The woodwork is holding up remarkably well for its age — it’s defect-free with very light handling and storage wear — the crescent buttplate fits snuggly and is original. The barrel measures 26-inches in length and includes a rocky-mountain-style front sight with its original rear adjustable leaf sight. The bore is incredibly bright and shiny with good rifling and no fouling or pitting — it’s about as mint as you can get for its age. The action functions as it should and everything locks up nice and tight — it would shoot well.
