  • Details: Of Short Land Pattern/Second Model Brown Bess design; Octagon to round, baluster turned, 11″ octagonal length with “wedding-band” transition, rifled .69 caliber, pin-fastened, top-mounted bayonet lug/front sight – Three (3) baluster-turned, flared ramrod pipes for it original trumpet-head iron ramrod – Brass nose-cap, front and rear sling swivel, iron butt-plate with engraved finial top tang, and trigger guard with ornate-designed, raised tang – Marked Lock with Goose-neck hammer, curled-tail frizzen with an arrowhead finial frizzen-spring, and rounded bridled powder-pan; the Lock markings are shown in raised 18th-century block lettering, the forward portion of both lines have worn, leaving only a partial name “__RNS/__ORF” – Opposite the lock is a steel side plate, the side of the barrel shows partial markings in similar block lettering “AS/IK” – Fullstock with sloped wrist and raised comb, cut 2.83 inches allowing for bayonet –
  • Condition: Very Good; the metalwork exhibits a nicely even salt and pepper-tone patina with typical surface wear commensurate with use and age; all screw head slots retain sharp edges, as mentioned, some of the markings have worn, as well as some engraving and scrollwork, the middle ramrod pipe exhibits a small chip on the outer flare – The woodwork is in Fine shape, it appears to have been refinished at some point, leaving the wood shy of the metalwork – it exhibits dispersed shallow compressions and faint draglines, the right side forward of the front sling swivel shows two hairlines and small dings – The bore retains small-ridged rifling, with heavier corrosion covering the first few inches, then exhibiting a lighter rust brown patina throughout the remaining surface – The mechanics appear to function properly, the cock locks tightly and the trigger actuates smoothly — Please refer to photos for more details –
